Great resource for '70's treasures
I found this guide looking up a Steely Dan record on Wikipedia. This is a treasure trove of fresh reactions to the whole decade of the '70's. Written in '81, it weighs Punk, and early New Wave more lofty than I think a 21st century perspective would understand, and it may be too harsh to some of the better prog rock of the time, but it is right on about many records I hold in high esteem from this era. Records this guide turned me onto include: Stevie Wonder: Greatest Hits Vol. 2, Burning Spear: Harder Than the Best, and Bill WIthers: Still Bill. With the advent of Spotify it's easy to load up on some of Christgau's records, and see what you think for yourself.
